Hollola’s Devil’s Nest – a natural wonder with a mysterious past

Pirunpesä – or the “Devil’s Nest” – is one of the most striking natural attractions in Hollola. It carries a sense of mystery and reveals an incredible glimpse into the area’s geological past.

This dramatic rock gorge was formed over 12,000 years ago, at the end of the last Ice Age, when meltwater from the glaciers carved through the bedrock. As the currents grew stronger, they shaped the ravine into what it is today.

The result is a breathtaking 20-meter-deep chasm, surrounded by steep rock walls and an enchanting spruce forest that feels like it’s straight out of a fairytale.

Pirunpesä is part of the Salpausselkä UNESCO Global Geopark and stands out as one of its most remarkable sites. It’s located about 10 km from our hotel. The path to the ravine is easy to walk and doesn’t require any special gear – just a sense of adventure!
